A recent study revealed that 62% of cannabidiol consumers use CBD products to treat health issues.
This is not surprising, given that the benefits of vaping CBD oil are many. Because CBD is a natural compound that is beneficial to the body’s endocannabinoid system (which links up to the other vital systems of the body) you don’t have to use it solely to treat an already existing problem. Many people consume CBD based products like one would take supplements.
But unlike meds and supplements, CBD products don’t always come with recommended dosages on the packaging. Which begs the question…
How much CBD should I vape?
Whether you are vaping CBD oil to treat a condition or merely as a preventative, not knowing how much to take can be a little frustrating. Which is why we are going to share with you some guidelines on how much CBD to vape.
There Are No Fast Guidelines Yet
Because the use of CBD products is fairly new, there isn’t much info out there on standardized recommended dosages. Even if there were, many CBD products do not list the gram amount on the packaging.
The good news is that is it fairly difficult to take too much CBD. According to research, even chronically high doses of up to 1500 mg per day can be tolerated well by humans.
Of course, this does not mean that you need to take such high doses.
Everybody’s body is different and things like weight, diet, genetics, and lifestyle can influence how different doses of CBD interact with your system.
If you are vaping CBD e-juice that does not have labeled amounts of CBD, you also don’t need to worry about taking in chronically high amounts as the doses in CBD e-juice are typically not as high as in pure CBD extract.
Although there are some estimated suggested doses for certain ailments, if you are not trying to ease chronic problem – the best way to ascertain how much CBD to vape is to experiment.
Most experts recommend starting with vaping once a day and slowly increasing this until you feel that you have reached a level where you feel good and have no side effects.
If you are trying to ease a complaint you can increase your vaping frequency to the point where you feel relief. If you increase your dose further and experience a regression in your symptoms, then you know it is time to scale things back.
Some Suggested Dosages for Different Ailments
Although none of these dosages are official yet, for your insight here are some of the daily milligrams amounts suggested for various health problems as published by Mayo Clinic.
- Chronic Pain: 2.5-20mg
- Epilepsy: 200-300mg
- Huntington’s Disease: 10mg per kg of body weight daily
- Sleep Disorders: 40-160mg
- Schizophrenia: 40-1 280mg
- Glaucoma: 20-40mg (more than 40mg of CBD carries the risk of increasing pressure in the eye)
As you can see there is a lot of flexibility in dosages, except for with glaucoma where you need to be careful that you do not exceed the 40mg dose. And, again, these are merely some suggested amounts….the right amount for you may vary greatly.
Where It Gets Complicated
Knowing the serving size that you would like to aim for is a great start. But calculating how much you are consuming is a little trickier.
If you are treating mild complaints or just wanna enjoy the beneficial effects of CBD oil like you would a supplement – then to make things easier on yourself you can simply experiment as suggested above by increasing your vaping to the point where you feel you are gaining maximum benefit.
If on the other hand, you are treating a chronic problem, then there is a specific way that you can measure out your dosage.
How to Measure Cbd Accurately in a Vaporizer
To measure your CBD intake accurately you will need two things. A CBD product that lists the milligrams of CBD present, and a suitable vaporizer for that product.
You can go with a refillable vape pen and pure CBD extract or CBD e-juice that specifies the milligrams. Or you can use a non-refillable vaporizer and CBD e-juice cartridges.
The next step is to work out how many inhales you get from one cartridge, refill etc, and then calculate what the CBD count is in each exhale. This way you can add up your CBD intake for the day based on how many inhales you have taken.
Just remember that if you aren’t treating a serious condition, and simply want to sleep a little better, beat mild anxiety or give your body something of benefit – you can skip all of this and simply focus on getting hold of good quality CBD oil.
How Inhaling Impacts Your Uptake of CBD
Speaking of inhales – did you know that the way you inhale impacts your CBD uptake in a big way?
The deeper you inhale and the longer you hold it, the more CBD your body will take up. If on the other hand you only inhale the vapor partway down your lungs, this will result in less CBD entering your body.
Although deep inhales result in increased CBD uptake, some people prefer to shallow inhale, or only inhale into their mouth. If you keep the vapor in your mouth only this will have the lowest level of CBD uptake.
Many people ask, do you hold in CBD vape? The answer to this is yes – if you want to take up the maximum amount of CBD from your product. But no if you find inhaling and holding unpleasant.
How Much Cbd Should I Vape? Enough to Feel Good!
If you have been worried about over or under-doing it with vaping CBD oil, you should be relieved to know that it is difficult to do either. Extremely high doses do not seem to pose a problem to the body, and at the same time, micro-doses of 2.5mg have been recorded to relieve instances of chronic pain.
So how much CBD should I vape then? At this point, unless treating a chronic condition, whatever feels good to you.
