Safety First: Why Quality Matters When Vaping CBD Oil

vaping cbd oil

Vaping CBD oil is one of the best ways to get the most out of this almost miracle compound. However, not all vape oils are created equal. Some CBD vape oil may contain chemicals and other contaminants you don’t want in your body.

Before you try vaping CBD, you should know what may be lurking in your oil. You’ll want to ensure you’re getting a high quality product that won’t expose you to harmful ingredients.

To learn more about what some of the dangers that could be hiding in some CBD vape oils and how to choose an oil that is safe and healthy, read on.

What is CBD, and Why Should I Use It?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound known as a cannabinoid that is extracted from plants in the cannabis family. Plants in this family include marijuana and industrial hemp. There are many beneficial cannabinoids in these plants, but CBD and THC have been studied most extensively.

Cannabidiol is not a psychoactive compound, therefore it does not cause users to experience a “high.” Psychoactive effects from the cannabis family are caused by THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol. This mind-altering compound is not included, or is found in very low concentrations to the point where it doesn’t cause any psychoactive high, in most CBD preparations that come from hemp. Marijuana based preparations are a totally different story.

CBD is frequently used for safe, addiction-free pain and inflammation control. It is also used to treat an array of other diseases and conditions. These include:

  • Muscular, bone, and neurodegenerative diseases
  • Anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, mood disorders, PTSD, ADHD, and OCD
  • Chronic and acute pain
  • Autoimmune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and Crohn’s disease
  • Migraines
  • Sleep disorders
  • Inflammatory diseases
  • Addiction
  • Seizure disorders

Benefits of CBD

There are many more conditions that show improvement with the introduction of CBD oil therapy. CBD has a unique interaction with our body’s own endocannabinoid system and cell surface receptors that results in reduced disease and disorder symptoms.

Cannabidiol can:

  • Reduce uncomfortable psychoactive effects of THC
  • Reduce inappropriate inflammatory response at the cellular level
  • Block receptors that promote aggressive cancer spread
  • Stimulate serotonin receptors in the brain for better emotional regulation

CBD is usually taken orally in oil form. It’s also offered in tinctures and edible supplements. These preparations provide relief, but vaping CBD oil may help you get relief even faster.

What is CBD Vape Oil?

CBD vape oil is a special oil prepared in a way that is suitable for use in vape pens. These vape oils generally consist of a base, an emulsifier, and hemp oil extract. This extract is high in cannabidiol (CBD).

Vaping CBD oil is the fastest way to experience the effects of the compound. When CBD is taken orally or topically, it can take a long time before the effects are felt. This isn’t the case with vape oil.

CBD that is used in the form of vape oil is absorbed much faster than other administration routes. Instead of having to pass through the skin or the digestive tract, CBD that is vaped is readily absorbed into the bloodstream through the lungs.

Because of this quick, direct absorption, the therapeutic effects of cannabidiol are felt almost instantly. This means faster relief from symptoms.

Not All CBD Vape Oils Are the Same

When you decide you’re ready to try CBD vape oils, put some consideration into the brand you buy. Not all CBD oils have the same ingredients. Some companies use chemicals that could be harmful and some may contain THC.

Ingredients in CBD vape oils should be chemical-free. Don’t use a vape oil that isn’t transparent about what it contains.

Note that FX CBD Vape Oils are extracted from hemp. Because of this, these oils contain less than 0.3% THC, produce no “high,” and are legal in all states without a prescription. Additionally, they do not utilize propylene glycol in the base (read more below).

CBD in Vape Oils

If you’re vaping CBD oil, you’ll want to make sure the CBD in your blend is top quality and contains insignificant amounts of THC. To ensure that your vape oil is THC free, choose cannabidiol extracts from natural hemp oil.

Check Your Base

In order to be combined with CBD-rich hemp oil extract, vape oils require a base liquid (a substance that disperses the oil). Many companies use a chemical called propylene glycol as the solvent in their product. Propylene glycol is a petroleum byproduct, meaning it is one of the leftover chemicals from petroleum refinement.

While it produces a thinner vape oil, propylene glycol may not be as harmless as some may think. Potential dangers in inhaling this are:

  • An allergic reaction that results in diarrhea, night sweats, or rash
  • A sore throat
  • Extreme thirst
  • Muscle Pain
  • Possible lung damage

These dangers are uncommon, but not unheard of among CBD oil vapers. It’s better to play it safe and avoid vape oils containing propylene glycol.

Vegetable Glycerin

The alternative to propylene glycol as a solvent in CBD vape oils is vegetable glycerin. This is a sugar alcohol that is in the form of a clear liquid. It’s generally made from coconut, palm, or soybean oils.

Although vegetable glycerin makes a more viscous vaping oil, it cuts out the need for propylene glycol as a base. Most vapers are more comfortable with a plant-based solvent as opposed to a petroleum-based one.

Avoid Toxic Flavorings

Flavors that are sometimes added to CBD vape oils may be a chemical land mine. In addition to being chemicals themselves, some flavors combine with the base (when using propylene glycol) in a vape oil to create new, even more harmful chemicals. Since they form after the oil is blended, they’re not listed in the ingredients.

Avoid artificial flavorings altogether and choose vape oils that are flavored with naturally occurring terpenes. Terpenes are aromatic plant oils extracted from cannabis and hemp that boast their own set of health benefits.

Emulsifiers

Make sure the vape oil you choose does not contain a chemical emulsifier. Emulsifiers are used to keep oil suspended evenly throughout the oil blend. Natural emulsifiers, such as sunflower lecithin, are best for healthy vaping. FX uses only an organic emulsifier.

Vaping CBD Oil the Healthy Way

Don’t cancel out the benefits you receive from cannabidiol by vaping CBD oil that has been loaded with nasty chemicals. Choose only high-quality oil with simple, straightforward ingredients that enhance cannabidiol’s medicinal effects.
